- Additional information
Earthquakes and volcanoes often occur in the same areas around the world. These are areas where mountains form, folding the earth’s crust and making cracks appear. We now understand that many regions of earthquake and volcanic activity are places where large plates that form the earth’s surface are bumping together. The movement of these plates, understood through the theory called plate tectonics, is associated with much of the violent actiivity of the earth’s surface. A Paul Burnford production.
