Carlito is eleven years old. He lives in Valledupar in the Colombian tropics. It’s the land of “Vallenato” which is a musical style born of three cultures, symbolized by the African drum, the European accordion, and the Indian guacharaca. Born to a family of Vallenato musicians, Carlito dreams of becoming more proficient than his father and his brother, of being the best and earning the title “the king of Vallenato” like his idol Alejandro Duran. Like everyone here, he is self-taught; Carlito has been playing the diatonic accordion since he was five years old. He is never without his accordion; through it he expresses his emotions. From the very first notes, Carlito becomes a magician who plays the nostalgia of sound, the lyricism of paseo, the effervescence of puya, the sensuality of merengue, and the four rhythms of Vallenato. With the help of his friends Jose, Antonio and Miguel, he will challenge the best bands and compose the most beautiful serenade in order to win the heart of Elsa, his first young love.
