- Additional information
Unlike many strictly historical accounts, this documentary reveals something about the values and psychology behind the Great Depression. Since there had been so much faith in businessmen before the stock market crash, those families out of work had to deal with a sense of personal failure as well as economic deprivation. The country needed leadership and only F.D.R. seemed able to supply it. Still, the Depression continued and, as this documentary footage shows, so did the protests.
