Set in the sleepy hollows of New York’s Hudson River Valley at the turn of the century, this is a classic horror tale. A grizzly old sailor visits an ex-shipmate, Samuel White, and his family. He leaves behind a mystical monkey’s paw said to grant the bearer three
wishes. But he warns strongly against its use: “Fate rules people’s lives, and those who defy it do so to their woe!” However, the Whites can’t resist making one humble wish. Indeed, it comes true – but in a fatal way. The family then tries to use the paw’s final wishes to reverse the tragedy, but again their fulfilled wishes bring only sorrow. Based on the story by W. W. Jacobs. Produced by Stillife-Gryphon Films. A Coronet release.
