A poignant, thought-provoking story illustrating that relationships and bonds can be formed between people from different backgrounds and beliefs. “Last Stand” tells the story of a 12-year-old Lakota boy (Goes Alone) who finds a wounded U.S. Cavalry soldier (James) in the aftermath of the Battle of the Little Big Horn. Goes Alone takes pity on James and allows him to escape. The next morning Goes Alone looks for James and finds him, near death. Over the next two days, Goes Alone and James form a positive bond despite language and cultural barriers, as the boy helps the soldier heal. But when part of the Cavalry returns, the atmosphere is altered.
